1.Retrospect and Prospect: How has research and teaching of English/American literature in Taiwan evolved historically? What mission or responsibility should English/American literary studies take to enrich humanities studies in Taiwan?
2.Methodology and Approach: Should English/American literary studies in Taiwan develop alternative methodologies or perspectives to “Western” theories while we actively participate in global dialogues? How does English/American literary studies in Taiwan address the legacy of (post)colonialism and Cold War?
3.Language, Text Selection and Teaching: What challenges would one encounter when teaching English/American literature in a context where English is secondary language? What role does local culture play in English/American literary research and teaching in Taiwan?
4.Community and Market: What is the relation between English/American literary studies and other studies, such as studies on world literature, Taiwan literature, comparative literature and TESOL? What kinds of professionals that we expect our students to become and how do we train them to meet the expectations?
