Established in 1928, National Taiwan University is a leading research university in Taiwan with over 30,000 students. The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures (DFLL) welcomes applications for the following faculty positions.
I. General requirements (see also ‘Additional requirements’ under each track): Minimum requirements include a PhD in related fields and a strong publication record. Teaching experience at the university level is strongly preferred. All full-time faculty members are required to teach DFLL service courses such as writing, conversation, and Freshman English and also (if applicable) to direct theses and serve on various university and department committees. Some knowledge of Chinese and experience teaching in a Chinese-speaking environment is a plus.
Track One—German. One full-time position in the following fields:
l Teaching German as a Foreign Language
l Related fields in German Literature or German Linguistics
Track Two—Linguistics. One full-time position in the following fields:
l Cognitive Linguistics
l Phonology (OT)
Track Three—English and American Literature. Two to three full-time positions preferable in the following fields:
l American Literature
- 19th-Century American Literature
- Early American Literature
l Eighteenth-Century British Literature
Track Four—Western Classical Literature. One full-time position
l must offer the Introduction to Western Literature course
III. Salary and Ranks:
Commensurate with qualifications. Initial salaries range approximately from 930,000NTD per annum (ca. 28,660USD; subject to exchange rates) for assistant professors to 1,262,000NTD per annum (ca. 38,900USD; subject to exchange rates) for full professors with regular teaching load (8 hours per week for full professors, 9 for associate and assistant professors).Other benefits include family health insurance, research grants and awards (on a competitive basis), and university housing (subject to availability).
